Yahoo! Myrtle Beach Is One Of The Best Places To Spend Your Holidays

We've been saying it for years and now Yahoo! Travel's well-vacationed followers are proclaiming it as well.

Myrtle Beach is one of the 10 best places for families to spend the holidays. Heck, Yahoo! Travel followers even proclaimed it to be one of the 10 most popular places to vacation in the world.

IN. THE. WORLD.

You're probably thinking that Orlando or New York are calling out to you for that special holiday trip. But think again. Myrtle Beach has a lot to offer and lower prices to boot. Wide beaches and awesome ocean views are just the backdrop to so much holiday activity that the family will be happily on the go every minute you're there.

Here's what the Yahoo! Travel people have discovered:

Myrtle Beach's “Grand Strand” is lit up, well, like a Christmas tree for the holidays. Holiday spirit is everywhere.

Myrtle Beach's fun center, Broadway at the Beach, kicks off the season Nov. 20 with a spectacular tree lighting event that draws hundreds of spectators. And why not? It's free and it's nonstop entertainment. There's the awesome Elvis tribute artist from Legends In Concert. Ice skaters from the holiday on ice show at the Palace Theater. Cloggers. Santa Claus, Frosty and Rudolph. And the evening's topped off with a huge fireworks spectacular over Lake Broadway.

Now, that's the way to launch the holiday season!

For the rest of the holidays, a 52-foot musical tree stands as a centerpiece in Broadway at the Beach. Just think about 141,000 lights — dazzling against the night sky — synchronized with a 12-minute performance of five different holiday songs. It's an incredible sight (and sound) that's staged every night on the hour through Dec. 31.

How's that for memorable (and free!) family fun? And it doesn't stop there.

Accommodations like the Marina Inn at Grande Dunes and the Village at the Glens roll out the red carpet for guests with special deals and activities' packages.

Up and down the Strand, popular live entertainment theaters shift into holiday mode and deliver mood-lifting performances that will impress every member of the family. IMAX 3D Theatre shows kid-friendly holiday movies that seem to jump off a massive screen right at you. Shops are all dressed up in their holiday finery and offer great bargains. Restaurants serve up festive treats. Inside Ripley's Aquarium a festival of trees sparkles. There's even a Christmas Parade at Broadway at the Beach on Dec. 4.

During the afternoon, the sun is so warm on most days that you can play golf in your shirtsleeves when you're not catching up on holiday shopping. And, while the temperature is high, the prices are low as winter rates rule at the area's top golf courses Glen Dornoch, Heather Glen, Pine Lakes, Tidewater, Shaftesbury Glen and Grande Dunes.

Okay, Myrtle Beach is in some pretty strong company on the Yahoo! Travel list of top 10 holiday destinations. Traditional holiday spots like Orlando, New York and San Francisco are long-time holiday choices. But for family-friendly fun, Myrtle Beach is tops.

It's is an easy drive from most East Coast and Midwestern cities and everyone knows that beach town accommodations are low this time of year when (most) sunbathers have left town.

So, why not join the millions of Yahoo! Travel contributors who choose Myrtle Beach for the holidays?
