Ever wonder what it's like to be on board Air Force One? To sit in the Oval Office?
Sure, you've seen them both in the movies dozens of times. But have you ever walked inside them? Touched any part of them?
Now's your chance.
Broadway at the Beach, the mega shopping, dining and entertainment hub of Myrtle Beach, S.C., has brought a little bit of Washington to the Carolina coast. This summer, visitors to Broadway will have a chance to get an up-close and personal look at these presidential iconic settings, as well as other neat presidential stuff. From June 12 through September 12, 2010, you can see and touch it all.
If you're heading for Myrtle Beach, you just might want to put this on your “must see” list. And, if Myrtle Beach is not in your plans this year, maybe you want to change those plans.
Because, folks, this is something you don't see everyday.
This is the kind of thrilling exhibit that will stir your brains and your emotions. It's a 10,000- square-foot salute to democracy and three centuries of presidential history. Check out the world's most powerful flying office when you step inside a full-sized Boeing aircraft fuselage decked out to the smallest detail to replicate Air Force One. This is the way the plane looked while it was used for nearly three decades by President John F. Kennedy through President Ronald Reagan. Leave the plane and head over to the Oval Office where the kids can put their hands on the desk given to President Hayes by Queen Victoria.
Presidential fashion gets a nod with a magnificent a collection of gowns worn by first ladies. And then there are the favorite presidential chairs of Lincoln, FDR and Kennedy. There's even an authentic Florida voting machine from the infamous hanging chad incident.
One neat gimmick even gives you the chance to let the most powerful leader in the world know what you're thinking when you meet up with one of the lifelike presidential talking heads in the exhibit. But, be careful what you say. They're interactive and will talk back.
Affordable and entertaining, and best of all, a cool way to slip a little history into your kids heads while they think they're on vacation.
The American Presidential Experience is open to the public in the Broadway Commons Area of Broadway at the Beach from June 12 through September 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily. Most adults will pay $9.95 for this thrilling peak into our history. But children, seniors, vets, active duty military and first responders get a break and for them it's $7.95.
This is the next best thing to hanging out in D.C. with the president and hitching a ride on the the real Air Force One.
Don't miss it.
