Spooktacular Halloweeen Happenings On Tap In Myrtle Beach

Jack-O-Lanterns. Skeletons. Witches. Costumes. Street performers. Musicians.

No wonder Halloween is the second most popular holiday in the U.S. right after Christmas.

Especially in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

The action is all around-- and a lot of it is free.

Take Ocean Lakes Family Campground, Myrtle Beach's biggest and best campground. This place really pulls out all the stops for Halloween. There's a whole weekend dedicated to Halloween family-friendly style. On Friday, Oct. 29 and Saturday, Oct. 30, anyone registered as a guest at the campground can get in on stuff like the free Spooktacular Magic Show on Friday or the Saturday Great Pumpkin Search on Saturday.

Even your four-legged buddies are welcome at Ocean Lakes. Dress 'em up for the Pet Costume Contest on Saturday. While they look cute, you can feel good because any proceeds go to support a local program for homeless and injured animals.

Kids will love competing in the “best costume” contest. And, if you're a big kid at heart, there's an adult contest too. There's time for trick or treating and even a Creepy Site Crawl through the campground. Best decorated campsite wins a prize.

The campground tops off Hallow's Eve with a free outdoor movie. In the dark. . . with ocean breezes whistling by, clouds drifting by in the moonlit sky, and night birds calling. Spooktacular!

So give the family a real thrill this Halloween. Take them to the Disney World of campgrounds. America's National "RV Park of the Year." Largest campground on the East Coast.

Call 1-877-510-1774 or go online to get your spot.

Don't have an RV? No problem. You can rent a house at Ocean Lakes and still be part of the fun! Call 1-800-845-2229.

If you're too late to get a campsite at Ocean Lakes — or maybe camping's not your style — it's still worth a trip to Myrtle Beach for Halloween. The town's Broadway at the Beach has lots of spooky activities planned. Live entertainment. Trick-or-Treating. Plus face painting and fireworks every night from Oct. 28 through Oct. 31.

And, it's a safe place for the kids to trick or treat.

If your adult body has a little of the kid inside, get in touch with your inner creature, throw on a costume and head to Celebrity Square, the nightclub district at Broadway. Anyone in costume gets in all the clubs for free.. The party starts at 7 p.m. and lasts until 2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct 30. That's lots of time for vampires and werewolves to go on the prowl. Ae costume contest is at 10 p.m. puts $5,000 in cold, hard cash at stake.
